This course is designed specifically for midwives and doulas following successful completion of the Phase One Course, with experience of using the Programme antenatally or in labour and who intend to teach the basic elements of the Programme to couples within their practice.

With the assessment following the course, Linda will travel to the couples’ home or another venue and observe a 3 hour class which she will be assess.   Price inclusive of assessment    Details below

  • 1. Location
  • 2. Pre-requisites
    • Successful completion of the Phase 1 pregnancy to birth course and case study.
    • Full knowledge of the techniques taught in Phase 1 and competence in performing them.
    • If working in the antenatal ward, midwives need to have used the Phase 1 of the Programme on a number of women.
    • If working in the labour ward midwives need to have used Phase 1 of the Programme on a number of women.
    • A desire to develop skills to teach pregnant women and their birth partners basic elements of the pregnancy-birth phase of LK Massage Programme in preparation for labour.
    • Prepared to allocate sufficient time to develop practice skills and keep up to date.
    • Free of back or limb injuries that inhibit movements.
  • 3. Objectives
    • develop teaching skills to enable participants to offer a basic understanding of the pregnancy-birth phase of the LK Massage Programme to women and their birth partners – including practice skills - paying particular attention to safety issues.
    • demonstrate accurate practice skills when performing the basic techniques related to the pregnancy-birth phase of the LK Massage Programme.
  • 4. Learning outcomes
    On successful completion of the course, participants will:
    • accurately demonstrate the principles of massage, touch and body movement in practice.
    • understand the basic principles of effective teaching and learning
    • use current research to develop an understanding of the relationship between regular massage, reduced anxiety and increased pain threshold
    • use current research to understand the design of the pregnancy-birth phase of the LK Massage Programme and be able to effectively share this information in an appropriate way
    • demonstrate an intuitive response to maternal – paternal needs in late pregnancy, labour and birth.
  • 5. Teaching and Learning Activities
    Information giving sessions will be interspersed with a variety of practice sessions to facilitate reflection and learning from experience. Teaching and learning activities will include micro lectures, discussion; use of audio visual, guided practice and directed reading.
  • 6. Assessment
    Participants will be expected to practise their teaching and practice skills on one couple initially and, once confident, will either:
    • obtain permission from a couple who are happy to be assessed; Linda Kimber will travel to the couples’ home or another venue and observe a 3 hour class which will be marked..
    • obtain permission from a couple to make a video recording of the class if the midwife is outside the UK..
    • ` The class for one couple will be approximately 3 months after completing the course and will last approximately 3 hours
